There is lots to do in this community. You can gaze skyward and watch some of Canada’s F18 fighter jets taking off or landing. If you are in town from mid-May til the end of June you can watch aircraft from a multitude of nations as they sharpen their skills in exercises over the Cold Lake Weapons range. There can be as many as 100 aircraft launching and returning throughout the day, lots to keep your eyes looking up. There are flights in the morning and afternoon with larger support aircraft also involved.
Any trip to Cold Lake should include some lake time. The marina on the lakeshore is a hub of activity with boats coming and going. It is a favorite spot to walk and enjoy an ice cream cone. The lake itself is over 20 miles across with large lake trout to challenge the avid fisherman. The is a beach and campground a bit further west along the lakeshore.
From Cold Lake it was westward through to Lac La Biche, travelling through an area with lots of trees and campgrounds north of the highway at the numerous lakes in the region. This is why the highway was aptly named Woods & Water.
